SCCSD Air Force JROTC cadets advance to level two competition of the Junior ROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JALAB)
A team of cadets from the Sioux City Community School District Air Force JROTC in Sioux City, Iowa recently competed in the first level of the 2020-2021 JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JALAB). Their outstanding performance led to their selection to advance to the level two competition.
JALAB is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, leadership, academic competition, and college opportunity. Hundreds of Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force JROTC programs from around the country participate in this annual competition.
Each JROTC program selects a team of four cadets and two alternates. They compete on a timed online examination. The seven-part quiz reflects questions from the ACT and SAT college entrance exams plus questions from JROTC, personal finance, and current events. The top 50 percent of teams from the level one competition go on to compete at level two. After the level two competition, the top teams from each division travel to Washington DC to compete in the finals.
Cadets on our JALAB teams include: Adela Juarez, Christian McKewon, Kellen Roberts, Logan Taylor, Micah Travis, Antonia Venturi, and Bernadette Venturi.
